What Is Agape?

Updated: Oct 23, 2019

The term “Agape” is translated from Ancient Greek referring to unconditional love. This is the highest form of love God has for man and encompasses faithfulness, commitment, and an act

of the will. Agape love is always shown by what it does.

In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus says, “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

These two commandments build on each other and if we truly love the Lord, that love will flow out of us and to the people around us. We are called to love one another and that can be shown in various ways; encouragement, providing a need, or just simply being present with someone.

When people walk into the Agape Center, they are greeted by name. Every person has the opportunity to meet with a mentor that provides both spiritual and emotional support, prayer and encouragement. The client then has the opportunity to request household items, furniture and toiletry needs as well as shop for food and clothing. The volunteers at the Agape Center long to show the love of Christ to everyone who walks through their doors.
